NETWORK EFFECT

networkeffect.io

This website is a project that explores the psychological effect of Internet use on humanity.
It contains 10,000 videos, news, tweets, charts, graphs, lists, spoken sentences, etc. based on basic words and taked from data from all over the internet. All this is presented in a very interactive way, visually. It would take hours to see it all, but the viewing window is limited to around seven minutes. They calculate the minutes based on the average life expectancy in the viewer's country. Like, if mine is 81 years, the limited time will be 8.1 minutes, which, in my opinion, is a very creative way to limit the time and I can see the meaning behind it.

This time limit can induce a state of anxiety, can trigger a fear of missing out because you can't spend forever there and explore everything, and you want to. All this is carefully designed to feel like you are browsing the web, the searching without end and that you cannot stop beacuse it is so addicting and then suddenly take it away from you.

This project was well done in my opinion. They succeeded in passing the massage about how the internet can be toxic and by spending our time so much on it we can miss so much outside in the real world.

After your time runs out it takes you to a page which contains a picture of blue sky with clouds and a quote:
"Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes." -Carl Jung
